Councilmember Susan Gardner

Susan Gardner has been a Livingston County resident for over 20 years and a Brighton City resident since April 2012.  Portrait-GardnerMarried to husband Jim and the mother of three grown children, Susan enjoys condo living in the heart of downtown Brighton with its shopping, festivals, and restaurants just minutes from her doorstep.

Following an 11-year career with Checker Motors Corporation, a supplier of metal stampings who once assembled the iconic Checker Taxicab prior to its bankruptcy in 2009, Susan took her supply-chain experience to work as a civilian employee of the U.S. Army at its TACOM Life Cycle Management Command in Warren.  Having endured Checker’s closing at the bottom of the recession, Susan understands furloughs, pay cuts, and the challenge of personal re-invention.  She believe this experience, along with her 20 years of private-industry and government employment, brings valuable experience to City Council in contracting, manufacturing, project management, and team-based planning.

Having earned her bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University while in her 40’s, Susan is a strong believer in life-long learning and active, connected support of her community. With her move into downtown, Susan was immediately drawn to public service and was appointed to Brighton’s Planning Commission prior to her election to City Council.  Susan looks forward to getting to know many city residents and business owners while enjoying city life to its fullest.

You may call or text Susan at 810-360-3686 or contact Susan via email: gardners@brightoncity.org.  Councilmember Gardner is currently serving a 4-year term, ending November 2027.
