A Few Weeks Shy of a Year...
It’s hard to believe that I have been serving as your City Manager for nearly a year. This past year has been full of change and challenges. Change can be exhausting, but we are far from being done, and my team and I are far from being tired. Challenges provide the conditions for individuals and groups to evolve. Without evolution, without adaptation to changing conditions, we become vulnerable to our environment.
When I came back into the office after the New Year, I looked around at my staff and said, “It is going to be a good year!” By evolving and adapting, we as an organization have grown and accomplished much: new staff are excelling. Those promoted to fill new roles, have responded to organizational needs with confidence that drives accelerated professional growth; and, longtime employees have a renewed energy and love for their work. What’s more, is the remarkable synergy among our team. So what? So what does all of this have to do with the community at large? Excellence, confidence, energy, and synergy all breed creativity and great organizations.
These attributes play an important role in our work to move the City of Brighton forward; moving forward with long overdue investments in our facilities, equipment, and infrastructure; moving forward with economic growth and redevelopment; moving forward with self-confidence; and moving our unique experience forward—an experience we call the “City of Brighton.”
What’s in store for 2017? Here is some of what is, or may be, in store:
We will see efforts to restore riparian areas (waterfront) along the Millpond
To say I am proud of the work we are doing on behalf of our Community is an understatement. To say I am proud of our City staff who has stepped up in a time of nonstop change does them little justice. They are kicking butt! As an organization we will continue to grow in 2017 and the City of Brighton will see the benefits.
- We will move forward with a Comprehensive Master Planning Process
- Using our Pavement Assessment, work will begin on crafting a sustainable and funded road strategy
- The City will be celebrating — Happy 150th City of Brighton!
- We will see more community engagement and collaboration
- Redevelopment projects will begin breaking ground
- And, much more…
“2017 is going to be a good year!” has already become a chant around the office, and we look forward to spreading this optimism around the community. We look forward to you joining us.
