N. SECOND STREET UTILITY UPGRADES AND STREET RECONSTRUCTION TO BEGIN THE WEEK OF JUNE 18, 2018
The City of Brighton expects to close First Street and N. Second Street from Millpond Lane to Walnut Street beginning the week of June 18, 2018 to perform utility upgrades to the water main and sanitary sewer, and to perform pavement replacement as part of the N. Second Street utility and street reconstruction project.
During the closure, access to the public parking area north of business located on Main Street will be available from Millpond Lane.
During phase two of the project, the contractor, Fonson Company, Inc. will begin work at the intersection of Cross Street and N. Second Street which will require closures on the southbound side of N. Second Street. Traffic will be maintained on northbound N. Second Street. Traffic will be unable to travel south on N. Second Street.
During phase three, the contractor is expected to shift traffic to the southbound side of N. Second Street so utility and street improvements can begin on the east side of N. Second Street. Residential and business access will be maintained at all times throughout construction.
Construction updates will be provided on the City’s website and social media accounts as the project progresses.
The approximately $2.2 million project is funded by both the City of Brighton and the City of Brighton Downtown Development Authority. The City’s Utility Reserves Fund has provided the funding for the utility work and the City of Brighton Downtown Development Authority has provided the funding for the street and related infrastructure work.
The project includes:
- The replacement of sanitary sewer lines and water mains
- Concreate curb and gutter replacement
- Resurfacing of N. Second Street from Cross Street to Millpond Lane.
Construction is anticipated to conclude in late fall. Some minor restoration of lawn areas that is not completed in the 2018 growing season will be completed in early spring of 2019.
City staff and consultants will be holding a public informational meeting on project specifics on June 6, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at City Hall located at 200 N. First Street, Brighton, MI.
All members of the public are welcome to attend and learn more about the project.
